September is here, and some of our young neighbour

September is here, and some of our young neighbours are heading back to school 🍂 After a summer of long, warm days, the much-needed rain has finally arrived, giving the plants a welcome drink as the temperatures begin to cool.

As everyone settles back into their usual routines, there’s plenty happening at PIP too. Here’s a look at what’s coming up over the next fortnight 👇

Saturday 12 September:

The Portland Inn Project is excited to invite you to an outdoor exhibition of artworks from two of our projects!

Neighbourhood Exhibition: Please join us for refreshments and pizza at the launch of these Neighbourhood artworks!
Opening 4pm
Talk and tour 4.30pm
Pizza 5.15pm
Close 6pm

Led by Rebecca and Katrina, we will be screen printing our Portland Pattern onto textile, ready for our upholstery group to use the fabric for stools and reupholstering furniture! Women who are part of our upholstery group are welcome to join the printing session for the morning before joining your session with Katie off site at 1. All families welcome, we will be printing until 2.30 and will clear up to finish by 3pm that day.

The Portland Inn Project is excited to invite you to an outdoor exhibition of artworks from two of our projects.

Firstly, the second chapter of the Grotspot! project, in collaboration with young people from the neighbourhood. Dream Street! Is a temporary installation on two boarded up houses on Century Street. Rebecca and @ttmq___ led workshops to imagine possibilities for the spaces in between our buildings. What street furniture could be introduced? What spaces need improving? What could the future of our streets hold? We hope you enjoy these artworks that bring some of these ideas together.

Secondly, we have installed semi-permanent artworks created by Tash McHugh @ttmq___ who has undergone a fellowship with the organisation for a year, and this exhibition is a sharing of the work she has made as part of her fellowship. There will be works across the neighbourhood for you to enjoy over the coming months, and some pieces will be on display in a small exhibition at The Pippin during the Saturday only.

This event is open to our neighbours and city wide community - those coming from outside the neighbourhood, please bear in mind we don’t have a toilet facility.

A huge thank you to @_wildrumpus for generously gifting The Portland Inn Project and our neighbours complimentary tickets to Just So Festival. It was such a wonderful experience to come together, explore the beautiful woodland and enjoy all the fantastic activities and entertainment the festival had to offer. ✨

Gardening Club today with @msdmeanar we started wo

Gardening Club today with @msdmeanar we started work on some drawings for the nettle zine that is being made with the nettle paper made at our summer celebration. We also collected some fennel seed to grow next year and to use in cooking- gardening club members tried the seeds and shared knowledge about this special plant - that had been passed from grandmother to mother to daughter / one neighbour shared that It is useful after giving birth and another that their mother gives it to them if they are feeling dizzy or sick. In case you were wondering what music we like to listen to while gardening - Big Guy had a prominent position in today’s session and we ended with a dance show.
