Good morning from everyone at PIP, here's what we've got on over the next couple of weeks.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be no Youth Club on the 28th July.

We have partnered with the @hubbfoundation who have offered us a number of HAF (Holidays and Food) sessions across our summer programme. On Tuesday's and Thursdays only from the 21st July - 13th August, our sessions will include a free lunch provided by @theslamwichclub, Stoke, for every child who attends (up to 20 children and on a first come first served basis). Food will be served around 12pm. Because these are funded sessions, we will need to take a register of all attendees on the day.

On Tuesday 21st July, our Gardener/Artist in Resid

On Tuesday 21st July, our Gardener/Artist in Residence, Deb Rogers, led a fun and creative collagraphy workshop part of our weekly Gardening Club and HAF Holiday sessions. The young people enjoyed designing their own unique printing plates using paper and a variety of textured relief materials. They then applied water-based ink to their plates, placed paper on top, and ran their creations through a printing roller to reveal their finished designs.
Thank you to everyone who popped along on the day. We’ve got plenty more activities over the summer holidays, please check our weekly posts to see what’s on. Today our gardening club are doing a big clear up at the secret garden - please go along to help if you are in the neighbourhood and have a spare few hours.

Over the past few weeks, our upholstery team have

Over the past few weeks, our upholstery team have regrouped to begin the process of making the soft furnishings for our building.

We are now putting into practice the skills we have learnt with Katie, from @meticulous_restoration during stage one of the project, whilst also learning some new skills using power tools: jigsaws and sanders.

During our summer program we are creating imagery for our first PIP upholstery fabric design. @rebeccamariadavies describes this as our own PIP Liberty fabric. Our aim is to make a series of fabrics responding to our current themes: Nature, Street and People the first one will be nature and will include drawings made by our neighbours this summer of mosses and plants living in the neighbourhood. We are looking forward to welcoming @katrinawilde back to the street to help us screen print our fabric.

In the two sessions we have had so far we have cut out wooden circles for the stools we are making for the building and have stripped a little chair for one of the artist residency bedrooms. In a future session we will pad these out and then they will be upholstered in our own bespoke PIP Nature Fabric.

Thank you to Katie for teaching us these brilliant skills - in today’s session we chatted about how we love to take some thing that might be unloved and transform it into something beautiful and valued. (A bit like the Portland Inn Building really.)

As part of gardening club, our artist gardener in residence Deb Rogers @msdmeanar organised for a cordial making workshop, using some of the edible plants we are growing at The Pippin!

Deb Jackson helped us make some fabulous rhubarb cordial from our own pippin grown rhubarb and made some fruit slabs from the leftover fruit.

We sampled tasty foraged cordials made from plants that grow in and around the Pippin, like rosebay willow herb. We made a daisy cordial and infused yarrow flowers ready for another day.

Deb Jackson will be leading on two more workshops later in the year 🙂
